There is much to be said about the world these past couple of years. With a global pandemic surging, very little has stayed the same as what we used to know. Many industries have had to adapt to meet their customers where they’ve been spending the better part of their time – at home. Companies are now tasked with making their products available to consumers at home if they want to stay relevant. Anything is fair game as long as users get to stay in the safety of their homes.
We rounded up some of our clients’ most creative COVID adaptations.
MyHeritage is an internet-based tech company that allows users to discover their genealogy on an online platform. MyHeritage DNA, the company’s first offline product, took customers’ journey of discovery one step further and allowed them to take a DNA test that provides DNA matching and ethnicity estimates. The company sends DNA testing kits to customers in a package that includes everything necessary for a simple cheek swab test. The customer could then mail back the same package for processing.
When COVID-19 hit, testing for the virus was in high demand. The MyHeritage DNA testing kits naturally became an ideal option for simple, sterile, home testing. The straightforward kit allows for convenience in at-home testing. It also allows for tests to be sent back to the lab via mail without any risk of exposure. MyHeritage would implement the same safety package design standards that we expect of the DNA testing kits for COVID-19 testing.
GoCube is a smart, connected Rubik’s cube that allows players to track their cubing on an app. The app can track the exact state of the cube and the position in which it is held. Instead of the usual following of a YouTube video or just plain giving up on the cube, the GoCube provides step-by-step instructions on how to solve a cube based on the one you’re holding in your hand, and will also provide challenges to better your cubing abilities.
The experience of opening the GoCube is no less fun than actually using it. Many unboxing videos have been made on the joy of opening the innovative packaging (see our favorite below!). So much so that when the great minds at RedBull were debating how to go forward with the Rubik’s Cube World Cup during the pandemic, they reached out to GoCube to turn the event entirely digital. In 2020 and 2021, the World Cup was held online. Players used GoCubes to solve and stream the position of their cubes. GoCube’s user-friendly packaging made it easy to implement as the main tool for the World Cup, allowing anyone to join no matter where they were and despite the circumstances.
